Shakespeare
I went to see Romeo and Juliet tonight. A load of bollocks isn’t it?

I don’t think people really enjoy his plays. They just pretend to like them to make themselves look intellectual.

There are several reasons why his plays are shit.

1. They go on and on. Just get to the fucking point.
2. They talk in riddles.
3. The jokes aren’t funny.
4. The acting is so fucking over the top.

Apart from that, I found it a bit disturbing that Juliet is only 13 years old. Basically, Romeo is a paedo.

*Awaits splat.

Doth my brain yearn, my heart bleed?
Oft when I enter the dome I do plead
Please do not take my tired mind today
Just two points more than a draw i pray
But alas my prayers rare are answered
I accept once more a fate well fastened
Tis a curse on many this Claret and blue
Yet once more unto the breach we'll stew.

It’s just the archaic and poetic language. If you read Shakespeare in modern English it’s perfectly understandable.

Depends who puts them on - if it's amateurs it can be painful but I've been several times to the RSC at Stratford upon Avon and they always do a fantastic job.

To be or not to be a West ham fan?, is apparently what the new and quite plastic hammers fan will ask themselves after almost every home game this season.

Good programme, that. I thought he said most likely 200 tops though. Still, massive.

Re: Shakespeare
There was a prog on BBC4 last night called Scuffles, Swagger and Shakespeare; There was some linguistics expert on who's studied in detail all of Bills texts and reckons the most number of words he originated is between 300 and 400 - tops.

So quite a way short of the 1700 I'd read about. However, he did concede that just a few dozen would be amazing but that a few hundred was the work of genius.

Well done Bill.

Re: Shakespeare
Only seen a couple of plays of his and read I think 2 books and I think it's all pretty shit, but I guess considering how long ago it was when they were written, probably fair play.

I'm not an arty man though and as he's clearly the most famous writer in history, more like it than loathe it I'm sure.
